The truth has been marginalized

sethdillon.substack.com

On Tucker the other night, I said you can tell who holds the cultural and institutional power based on who you're not allowed to joke about. The fact that you can't joke about the LGBT community is proof that they're privileged and powerful, not marginalized.

You can watch the interview here:

In reality, the marginalized are those who feel intense pressure to censor themselves or face consequences. You can't even affirm basic facts of biology without fear of retribution.

Clearly, it’s the truth—not the trans community—that’s been marginalized.

I’ll close here with a few tweets on this subject from my favorite writer and thinker:

If you have both the will and the power to punish anyone who makes a joke at your expense, then you are the oppressor, not the oppressed.

There's only one thing a comedian should ask himself when writing a joke: "Is it funny?" He shouldn't have to ask himself, "Will this joke end my career because it offends people far more powerful than me who identify as marginalized?"

You are profoundly privileged if your grievances are jokes and pronouns you don’t want to hear.

And if the whole world bends over backwards to protect your feelings and punish anyone who triggers you, then you are coddled and spoiled — not oppressed.
